Best professors I've ever had!
LOL re: other people's comments. Having had Nunn back in 1996, I see nothing has changed. Everything they say is true. His classes are a lot of work, the tests are difficult, and the material he must teach us is extremely boring by its very nature. And that's just Finance 201. Some of these people would literally cry if they took 203! But it's all a matter of one's perspective. If you're a typical fat lazy American, you don't care to actually learn anything or work too hard to make the grade. If you think you're entitled to a college degree for being a dumb ***, then avoid Ken Nunn like the plague. But if you're a real alpha person, burning with a desire to excel and stand out from your peers, this guy will gladly oblige you. He really knows his stuff, and will sock it to you as hard as you want it. That said, Ken Nunn is the best professor I ever had...at UConn.

A friend of mine and I were in the class together, just before the first exam because of our intense schedules, he dropped the class and I decided to stick it out. Big mistake, Nunn is an intelligent professor and he knows his material although he is one of the professors who has a hard time teaching the material to students. On the other hand, his lecture notes are confusing, you work long hours on spreadsheets that count for 10% of the grade, the exams test you on miniscule items from the book as well as problems that the professor quickly rolls over. He is a decent professor yes but his style is another story. It is very pragmatic and this is what makes him a difficult professor and one that I would not recommend unless you like a lot of work and you have the time to do all that his class demands.

Dr. Nunn is one of the best professors at UConn. His knowledge of the subject matter is exceptional. Don't believe the comments posted by the other students. They were simply too lazy to handle his moderate workload. If you do the reading assignments along with the homework problems and study the previous exams you will be just fine. However, if you are like the other students who posted and want an "A" without having to do any work and want something for nothing then don't take this class.

One of the worst professors I've ever had here. First of all the guy missed a total of 7 classes due to random illnesses and surgerys due to trying pushups on his weak ass arms..thats 3 1/2 weeks worth! Next his notes are so bad and diffucult to understand. Even if you write the notes down you still won't understand whats going on. He charges you $5 for all the damn handouts he gives. Only positive is he is a generous grader. I got 9 out of 10 wrong on a quiz and got a 70.

Naturally, I'd like to make some comments about this professor. Drop down - initially this guy came off pretty hardcore. Dont test this guys patience in any shape or form when it comes to his grading policy - i simply pointed out an error I made on my quiz (this was 10 min after I took it) trying to salvage some points on the first quiz and Nunn went physco. At first I wanted to put dog shit in this guys coffee in the morning and watch him sip and throw it up, but then I realized Nunn is a human being like all of us and is pretty cool. He appologized after, and I think Nunn was one of my better professors this semester. He always answers your questions, and he acts wierd and moves his pencil pretty hardcore across the board, papers, and your quizes like hieroglyphics but he knows whats going on. Nunn seems like he enjoys pounding PV and FV and IRR on his calculator, but there is something to this coarse to be desired. Alot of the material is useless, (I.E. (REAL LOUD IF YOU HAD HIM YOU KNOW) the entire Finance book). He missed a complete week of classes, and insisted he would not teach on his knees due to a back ailment. I lost all interest right there comming to class and not to mention it was an 8am class. I woke up late 2x's for this guy prior to his week off and ran to class only to find a nice note "KEN NUN WILL NOT BE HERE TODAY DUE TO ILLNESS". This might have hurted me on the final not attending the final 3 weeks of classes but oh well. On the final I looked at it and left 10 blank out of 25, and totally blanked out. Every question looked the same. He doesn't tell you whats on the final, and remembering the quizes you took wont help much even if he did give them back to you. Luckily I took the time studying for his quizes and aced most of them, so that should make your final grade okay. Nunn does curve, and his grades for quizes start off at 50 with 5 questions 10 points a piece. Finance 201 is a introspection into deciphering Ken Nunn and if you get anything out of this class it's that you better start saving your money, or your going to end up miserable and teaching this stuff.

The worst business class I have ever taken. I'm a fairly good student and this class was way over my head. His teaching skills are poor to non existent. I'm not even sure if he understands the material because he didn't even try to teach it to us. For example: to teach a whole chapter, he picks 2 random problems at the end of the chapter and solves them. Thats it, no explaining defintions or concepts. The quizzes and final are a waste of studying time. I really don't see a way to pass this class with a decent grade. Nunn really needs to retire

Kenneth is a psycho. Unfortunately I had him for 201, not knowing how much he sucked and then was forced to have him again since he only taught 203. It was 2 semesters of hell. He'll confuse the crap out of you every day and nobody ever knows what's going on. One time he tried demonstrating what risk was to us and jumped off of a chair in class. He hit the ground letting out a grunt and almost broke his leg. In 203 he won't talk about any homework problems you're responsible for, instead you go over these long Harvard case studies that don't make any sense or let you learn anything. In 203 when pretty much everyone failed the midterm he yelled at us and blamed it on the laptops in class. Sure Ken it was the laptops and not your rediculous teaching style. Avoid Nunn!

Unfortunately, this fool is the only person that teaches this course. I used to worry about this class, but then i realized that my complete hatred for this man overrides that, so now i do nothing at all. All he does is walk around talking nonsense and saying "Drop down" repeatedly while simultaneously passing out multiple handouts that are indistinguishable from each other. You will end up with a folder full of handouts that look the same and have no idea what is going on. Also, he wants $5 to cover his copying costs. Go away, and do not come back.

Well, i'm taking the 203 class now and it is really pretty depressing to study your ass off for these pop quizzes then get them back and get a 50 on them. Who gives quizzes with multiple choice questions with options A-J? Come on now. He is all over the place with the lectures giving out 3 handouts of the same thing. I seriously think he legitimately tries to make the class 100 times more complicated than it needs to be. It is just out of control. He is out of control! Wayy too much work, more than i've ever had for any other business class, and we have no clue what is going on in this class! He's nice if you talk to him one on one but overall the class will drive you insane as it has for everyone else I have talked to that is taking it. GOOD LUCK! you'll need it...

Definitely avoid this teacher if you can! I was reading the reviews from last semester, which is when I had him, and definitely also witnessed him bleeding all over everyone's papers too! He was very strange, never stood in one place, much like his teaching methods since he jumped around quite often making it impossible to understand one thing before moving on to the next. He was extremely unorganized and even left class on several occassions to run up to his office for dittos he forgot. He also cancelled class for weeks at times, but expected us to know the material for an exam upon his return! One class period he actually threatened to kick me and another student out of class and report us, insisting he had given us "cues" to stop talking, when we were actually sharing notes since he is so scatter-brained and hard to follow. To say the least, his "cues" were non-existant and he later described his outrage against us as a "blown circuit from overload" insisting it wouldn't happen again, with his much delayed apology for his unexpected outburst. It made me hate his class even more! Good luck studying for his exams, the true and false are hard, use the practice exams to know some of the math questions. But take a different professor if you get the chance!

Alright, so that the heck is this guy's deal??? My head was spinning after taking his final exam. I think he should be recognized to hold a degree NOT in finance, but rather in turning his students' brains into gooey mush because of his horrible teaching. I think this class was just an elaborate excuse to waste my time, a necessary evil. Oh well... there are good times and there are bad times, and in some extreme instances there are horrible times. this class fits the last category. Steer clear from Kenny in your path to academic acheivement. he is a road bump that will bring havoc to your grades & the precious GPA on your transcript. The establishment needs to root out substandard teachers like this so that students like us can take away useful and practical information from school without having to feel frustrated about gobbling up and regurgitating nonsense information. That's my
$ 0.02.

OK this guy is terrible. He is the worst teacher i have ever had. With that being said he completely lied to us on the final. telling us nothing was from the case studies, even though it all pretty much was. Bottom line i learned nothing, i feel bad for future fnce majors because of this guy. I no longer want anything to do with finance, thanks nunn,.

Well, Knunn is pretty dorky..but that's what makes him funny. This class ends up being a real pain in the butt when you actually have other classes to take! Considering the final is cumulative and can cover any of the questions in the book, I think it's a little ridiculous, and not because I'm a slacker...The true/false section is pretty much a guessing game, and if you want to do well, you would have to study all week for the final exam, which is almost impossible. anyway, i would not recommend this class, but not just because of Nunn. Finance in general just sucks.

terrible. i have not learned a single thing all semester. i am sitting here trying to study for the [cumulative] final and all i can think about is how bad this guy is and i felt i had to tell everyone else about it too. the first day of class he jumped right into chapter 5 and started talking about diversifying portfolios and all sorts of detailed finance stuff, as if everyone knew exactly what he was talking about. everyone was pretty much stunned. it never really got any better from there. Not to mention he is extremely unorganized, and just a mess in general. example: the other day he had chalk on his back, his tie was backwards, and his hand was bleeding for some unknown reason and he was getting blood all over the papers he was handing out and acted like there was nothing wrong. it was a little distracting to say the least. WORST PROFESSOR EVER.

Perhaps the worst professors that I shall ever encounter. He is exceptionally irritating and an insufferable know-it-all. His notoriety is further complemented by inability to communicate effectively. He is at a total loss when it comes to the art and skill of sucessful communications. He has a "monopoly" over his class - i.e. MOST UNFORTUNATELY no one else teaches this class - which has given it a terrible reputation, thanks in large part to this person. My advise to all those thinking of enrolling, please do yourselves a favor and avoid this professor under all circumstances - you'll be be much better off.

He screams during his lectures. Screams that jolt you in your seat. His notes are a vomitus mass of convulusion - so confusing. He repeats concepts about 10 times, the BS concepts of no value, whereas he mentions important concepts just evasively and once. When one walks out of his class, one scratches his head (or his balls - in the case of a guy) and tries to recollect even a scrap of information learned from Nunny boy. Problem is - there is usually nothing!
Avoid Nunny under any circumstances - miserable old bat.
